OUR GREEN INITIATIVE
At eventLink, we are committed to implementing environmentally responsible policies Becoming a greener company helps protect and conserve our natural resources. It also demonstrates that becoming a greener company lowers operating costs. This means we can pass those savings on to you!
LED Bulb Replacement
eventLink is exchanging its entire inventory of standard, incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs. Why?
- Long Life - LED lights last about 100 times longer than incandescent light bulbs.
- Energy Efficiency - LED bulbs use 80% of the energy they draw versus 20% for Incandescent bulbs.
- Cost Effectiveness - LED bulbs can last up to 25 times longer and use one quarter of the energy of other bulbs.
- Environmental Friendliness - LED bulbs are mercury free, last 25 times longer and are recyclable.
- Low Heat Output - LED bulbs generate as low as one fifth of the heat of standard bulbs.
Printer Cartridge Recycling
"Not Everyone Is Paperless Yet"
eventLink owns over 100 printers. We currently recycle all used printer cartridges through Laser Recycling Center in Franklin, TN. In 2009, this represented approximately 800 recycled cartridges.
An average toner cartridge, used in laser printers, faxes and copiers is made of 40% plastic requiring up to 1 gallon (3.7 liters) of oil. The rest of the cartridge consists of 40% metal and smaller amounts of rubber, paper, foam and toner. The plastics used in printer cartridges are made of an engineering grade polymer that have a very slow decomposing rate ranging between 450 to 1000 years depending on the cartridge type. Ink cartridges may also leak printer ink polluting the surrounding environment.
500,000,000 print cartridges are sold every year worldwide. Approximately 25% of those are recycled. That means 375 million cartridges are not. That equals roughly 11 cartridges being disposed of every second. If you put all these cartridges end to end they would cover a distance encircling the earth over three times.
eWaste Recycling & Reuse
"eWasting Away"
eventLink has strict policies regarding equipment disposal - our eWaste finds a good home.
If rental equipment is in working condition, but outdated or has cosmetic damage, it is donated to one of the several local and international charities that eventLink supports. If the equipment cannot be repaired it will be broken down into spare parts and used in the maintenance of other similar equipment.
The amount of electronic products discarded globally has skyrocketed recently. 20-50 million tons are generated every year. If such a huge figure is hard to imagine, think of it like this - if the estimated amount of eWaste generated every year would be put into containers on a train it would go once around the world!
Paperless Office
"Do You Really Have To Print That?"
eventLink has taken several steps to become a paperless office:
- Printed forms for Exhibitor Manuals have been replaced by electronic forms and On-line ordering.
- All estimates & invoices are sent electronically, instead of printed and mailed.
- Event files are kept electronically on a shared file server.
- 90% of marketing material is now electronic.
- Corporate marketing material is 90% electronic documents.
- eventLink uses only flip charts with recycled paper.
- eventLink provides a dedicated point of contact on show site to help coordinate recycling efforts as they pertain to the Audio/Visual scope of work.
"How Much Waste Is That?"
- With all the office paper we waste every year we could build a 12-foot high wall of paper from New York to California.
- Recycling one ton of paper saves 682.5 gallons of oil (think about that next time you’re standing at the pump).
- US Offices create 12.1 trillion sheets of paper Per Year.
- 40% of the solid mass in landfills is paper and paperboard waste.
- Paper usage is rising by around 20% every year, with the average office worker using approximately 50 sheets of paper every day in the typical office.
Turn It Off
"If the French can do it..."
In 2013, the French environment ministry passed a law stating that shops and office buildings will have to turn off their lights at night to save energy and reduce light pollution. The new law will save about two terawatt/hours of electricity a year - the equivalent of the annual consumption of 750,000 households.
eventLink offices shut down at night as well. Computers, monitors printers and 90% of lights are turned off each night as staff members leaves. About 30 to 40 percent of electricity used by companies is wasted, as computers, printers and copiers are left on long after employees leave the office.
